This wasn’t our average Pig run! Starting out at the end of Old Como in Dayton, the crew embarked on a 44 mile round-trip journey to a hidden gem known as Bert’s Cabin.
Following the lead of Rob Elliot, the convoy of assorted off-road rigs (and some street vehicles that identified as off-road rigs) climbed the tallest peak overlooking Dayton Valley to the little cabin with a million dollar view. Ol’ Bert’s place had been trashed pretty badly on the outside. The many hard working volunteers made quick work of it, filling up two trailers and a couple pickup beds to haul out approximately 27 cubic yards / 4 tons of garbage to haul back to Sutro Transfer Station.
It was already getting dark by around 4:30, when Pigs finally went their separate ways from the ‘lunch’ at Pizza Hut after unloading. Long, slow travel over miles of rough terrain took most of the time. The cleanup itself was done in an hour.
Special thanks to Don Hawkins and his big mechanic brain for rescuing Ron’s Toyota from vapor lock at the top of the mountain!
